Boot Camp for the Health Care Fraud Investigator

NHCAA’s Boot Camp is a three-day training program designed to help your newest team members acquire an understanding of the core competencies necessary to combat health care fraud. Boot Camp is also a unique opportunity to invest in building your team’s skills.

Participants who attend this program will return to their team with a thorough understanding of fraud in the health care system and the applicable laws for investigations. Participants will be able to explain common health care fraud schemes, implement basic investigative strategies to enhance fraud detection and investigation, evaluate cases for merit, detect potential red flags in medical and billing records, and identify appropriate resources to assist in fraud detection and investigation.  

Expert Faculty

 

Sessions are led by health insurance investigators, analysts, SIU Directors, and law enforcement investigators actively working cases in the health care field.

Hands on Interactive Learning

 

Begin by defining the scope of the health care fraud challenge and examining each step of the investigative process from detection and choosing an investigative strategy, to effective report writing and presenting your case to other internal and external stakeholders. Participants, working in groups, will synthesize concepts by taking part in exercises woven throughout the program and an extensive hands-on case study.

Case Discussion Roundtable Meetings

Unique to NHCAA educational programs, eligible attendees can participate in Case Discussion Roundtable Meetings. Designed as small group discussions, private insurer members come together with our public and law enforcement partners to share case information and discuss schemes, trends, and fraud patterns. Attendees must be an employee of a NHCAA Member Organization, Law Enforcement Liaison or Affiliate Member to attend.

This program has the prior approval of AAPC for 6.0 continuing education hours. Hours can be split between Core A, CPCO and CPMA. Granting of prior approval in no way constitutes endorsement by AAPC of the program content or the program sponsor.

NASBA Logo

The NHCAA Institute is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. This program is appropriate for analysts, investigators, and law enforcement agents new to the health care anti-fraud industry and is required for anyone applying for the AHFI exam with less than 5 years' experience in health care fraud investigations.

As a level I, or basic, program, little or no investigative / health care / analytics expertise is expected, terms and acronyms are defined, concepts are explained in greater detail, and the education focus is on investigative skills.

Pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisite requirements to attend this program.

Registration Deadline: April 16
NHCAA accepts registrations after this date; however, NHCAA may not be able to include your contact information in the participant roster or have a certificate of completion on-site for you.

All cancellations (regardless of date) will be assessed with at $100.00 administrative fee.

  • All written notice of cancellations and substitutions should be sent via email to training@nhcaa.org.
  • Before cut-off date - To cancel and obtain a full refund (minus an administrative fee) or to request a substitution, you must provide written notice to The NHCAA Institute - NETS.
  • After cut-off date - If you cancel in writing after the cut-off date, no refund will be provided but credit for future training is available. All substitution requests received after the cut-off date will be charged a $100.00 administrative fee.

All rooms are sold first come, first served. Rooms may sell out prior to the cut-off date, so book at your earliest convenience.

Participants should identify themselves as being with the NHCAA National Education & Training Series (NETS). If you are a federal employee and qualify for the government rate, please also identify yourself as qualifying for the government block.

Government Single: $114* or prevailing government per diem.

*Cost does not include a 12.5% in state and local taxes.

Reservations must be secured by one night's deposit or a major credit card. One night's charge will be applied to the individual's card for the first night's room/tax if the individual does not arrive on the designated arrival date or does not cancel their reservation 72 hours prior to their scheduled arrival date, or leaves earlier than the confirmed check out date.
