James Wood

Dr. Wood has extensive experience in medical consulting and medical management including utilization review and medical audits and appeals for Medicare and Medicaid RACs (Recovery Audit Contractor) programs. Dr. Wood’s wide-ranging expertise in review of services has been leveraged by commercial payers, Medicare, Medicaid, independent review organizations, and self- insured entities. He has expertise in the use of industry guidelines such as MCG (formerly Milliman), Interqual and AIM.

Dr. Wood currently holds a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He has served as an editor for webmd.com and sits on several Board of Director positions and national committees. Prior to his role at SCIO Health Analytics, Dr. Wood was the Medical Director at Renal Advantage Incorporated/Southeast Renal Associates where he oversaw key programs and initiatives including: the initiation of a nocturnal dialysis and home hemodialysis program, established a documentation/transcription protocol which lowered practice-wide transcription costs by 35% and where he led practice-wide deployment of the electronic medical record in three offices and eight dialysis facilities.

Dr. Wood is a board certified physician in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arkansas. His Internal Medicine internship and residency was performed at Carolinas Medical Center and his post-graduate fellowship in Nephrology is from Yale University.
